Profile

Peter Hanly’s principal research interests lie at the intersection of art, literature and philosophy, in particular in relation to the Romantic period. He is the author of “Between Heidegger and Novalis” (Northwestern University Press, 2021), as well as of articles on Hegel, Kant, Heidegger, Nancy and, most recently, Reiner Schürmann. He is the translator of Heidegger’s “On Inception” (Indiana University Press, 2023), as well as of essays by Nancy, Werner Hamacher and others. He is currently working on a study of the French Surrealist poet Joë Bousquet, and a translation of Nikolaus Lenau’s “Faust.” Prior to coming to Boston College, he enjoyed an extensive career as a concert violinist, performing throughout New England.
