Inauguration date set for President-Elect John T. Butler, S.J.

A three-day celebration will take place October 15-17

Boston College will host the inauguration of its 26th president, Jack Butler, S.J., on October 15-17, 2026, with a three-day celebration that will include an academic symposium, a Mass in Conte Forum, a formal inauguration ceremony, and a football game on the Chestnut Hill campus.

Winston Provost and Dean of Faculties David Quigley, chair of the Inauguration Planning Committee, has asked the Ļć½¶Šć community to save the dates to honor the wishes of the president-elect for a ā€œCelebration of the Ļć½¶Šć Community,ā€ including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents.Ā Ā 

Quigley said that Thursday, October 15, will feature an academic symposium and panel discussion. Friday, October 16, will feature a Mass, inauguration ceremony, reception, and other special events.

Saturday, October 17, will include campus festivities in advance of a football game against the University of Pittsburgh.

ā€œOctober's events will offer the University community the opportunity to reflect on our heritage and recent history, and to mark the significance of Fr. Butler's inauguration," said Quigley. "The committee and I are focused on organizing three memorable days that celebrate the best of Boston College.
