A communication degree from Boston College will prepare students to think broadly in terms of the social, economic, and political aspect of the human existence.Â
Department of Communication Learning Objectives:
- Analytical and Research Skills – Students will formulate meaningful research questions, apply appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods, and interpret data to critically engage communication problems.
- Critical Theoretical Understanding – Students will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of major theories, traditions, and debates in communication studies, rhetorical studies, and media studies.
- Oral and Written Communication Practice – Students will express themselves clearly and persuasively in oral, written, and multimodal formats tailored to diverse audiences and contexts.
- Media Production and Storytelling – Students will produce creative, compelling media across genres and platforms, employing diverse narrative and editorial skills.
- Digital and Cultural Literacy – Students will demonstrate literacy through the analysis and navigation of evolving digital platforms, audience practices, institutions of power, and global cultures in a dynamic communication landscape.
- Ethical and Reflective Communication – Students will reflect on their experiences, identities, and responsibilities as communicators to engage in and prepare for ethical decision-making.
